Alternative dictionary was a site specific installation for the event "Brussels meets Brighton" at the Shunt Loinge in London. Ingrid asked all the participants from Brussels and Brighton to contribute words descibing what they were doing for the event. She then wrote these words in brown ink on 500 brown card luggage tags, which were suspended on string across the archway space in Shunt. Ingrid recorded herself on a cassette dictaphone saying the words in both languages. She edited this recording using the sounds the tape playing mechanism made as well as the words recorded, and this was played through speakers as part of the installation, and also during the performance. For the durational preformance, Ingrid sang and moved about the space in slow motion. As she did this, she explored the sounds each word contained and the movement the sound evoked within her body. When she finished a word, she would look up and use the next word she saw, beginning the process of deconstructing the word again. The performance lasted 2 hours. The installation was up for 5 days.
