Ingrid Plum @ Peace Camp

Installation at Brick Lane Gallery using origami, tracing paper, and white ribbon

28th December 2006.

Ingrid Plum was chosen to exhibit as part of PEACE CAMP at Brick Lane Gallery, "a group show hosted by Bob & Roberta Smith which explores our perception and vision of Peace.

Following the success of her first solo show "Murmuration at Embassy Court", Artist Ingrid Plum expanded upon her previous work into the context of Peace for this exhibition. "Murmuration" is the sound of many people murmuring and the collective noun for hundreds of Starlings swarming at sunset. Using poetry and origami, Ingrid Plum explored the idea of harmony and synchronicity in nature that lies behind this word. Throughout the day, words and birds were suspended from the ceiling of Brick Lane Gallery for members of the public to walk through. The dictionary definition of peace was hand-written on a poster in the window. She asked visitors to contribute by adding words expressing their own truth of the meaning of harmony and peace. This created a dictionary from the minds of everyone who visited. By the end of the day, Brick Lane Gallery was swarming with birds and murmurings of peace from all who had visited.
